When a vehicle is sold, the buyer’s name replaces the former owner’s as the registered owner, and the transaction is referred to as a transfer of ownership.

Transfer of ownership – (Death of the Owner of the Vehicle)

When a vehicle’s registered owner passes away, ownership is transferred to the deceased registered owner. When a motor vehicle owner passes away, the person who inherits the vehicle may use it for a period of three months as though it had been transferred to him, provided that person notifies the registering authority of the death of the owner and of his own intention to use the vehicle within thirty days of the owner’s passing.

Transfer of ownership on auction is the term used to describe the process of selling a vehicle at a public auction in which the buyer’s name replaces the prior registered owner as the registered owner.

  • NOC or official letter from the registration office outlining the cause of the NOC’s delay.
  • A receipt from the registration office or the closest post office must be supplied in the event that the NOC has been given but the owner has not yet received it.

Form 32

  • Certificate of registration
  • Certificate of insurance
  • Certificate or order validly signed by the person authorized to conduct the auction verifying the sale of the vehicle in his favor
  • Passport size photograph
  • Authenticated proof of the state or federal government’s order allowing the vehicle to be sold at auction
  • Chassis & Engine Pencil Print
  • PAN card or Form 60
  • Certificate of pollution under control
  • C. Book
  • Purchaser’s undertaking
  • Proof of Date of Birth of purchaser

Procedure to Transfer Car Ownership – Offline Mode

  • Notaries of the Agreement of Sale
  • Now, candidates have to upload the mandatory documents
  • Submit them
  • Hand over the documents
  • Fill out the application form for a clearance certificate
  • Now, fill out the application for Transfer of Ownership at the New RTO

Steps Transfer Car Ownership – Online Mode

The transfer procedure of vehicle names is quick and simple online. So, the online web portal allows the owner to keep a track of vehicle ownership transfers at the same time status also.

  • Visit the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways’ official web portal
  • Click on “Online Services”
  • Now, choose “Vehicle Related Services
  • Press on Misc
  • Give your mobile number and choose to generate the OTP option
  • Enter the OTP
  • Press on Show Details
  • Beneath the Application Selection, residents have to choose the Transfer of Ownership
  • Enter new owners details, current address, permanent address, insurance information
  • Proceed to pay the fee as per guidelines
  • Upload the signed copies from both parties
  • Submit the documents and relax.
