How to Verify Fake e-Challans & Avoid Scams
Step 1: Use the Official Government Portal
- Visit https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in
- Enter your vehicle number or driving licence number
- View genuine challan history issued by authorized traffic departments
Step 2: Avoid Clicking on Suspicious Links
- Do not trust SMS/WhatsApp messages with payment links
- Verify links — official portals usually end in .gov.in
- Ignore messages demanding urgent payment or claiming heavy fines
Step 3: Check Details Carefully
- A genuine e-Challan will contain:
- Vehicle number
- Date & time of offence
- Location
- Offence type
- Challan ID
- Option to download a receipt
Step 4: Pay Only Through Trusted Platforms
- Only pay using: Parivahan Portal
- State Transport Department websites (e.g., Mahatraffic, AP e-Challan)
- Official mobile apps like mParivahan
Step 5: Be Aware of Common Scam Signs
- Demands for payment to private UPI IDs
- Threats like “your licence will be suspended”
- Offers of “discount” or “clearance” for multiple challans
