Steps to Renew an Expired Driving Licence:
- Visit the Parivahan Sewa portal: https://parivahan.gov.in
- Select your state and click on “Apply for DL Renewal”.
- Fill in the required details: Enter your DL number, date of birth, and other personal information.
- Upload documents: Expired driving licence (scanned), Address proof, Passport-size photo, Medical Certificate (Form 1A if age > 40 or commercial licence)
- Pay the renewal fee: Typically ₹200 (late fees apply if expired over 1 year).
- Book an appointment (if required by your RTO) for verification or biometrics.
- Visit RTO (if needed): Submit originals and complete biometric process.
- Receive renewed licence: It will be delivered to your registered address or available for download
- Offline Renewal Option: visit store Fill out Form 9 (renewal application form) and submit with the fee.
- Smart Card Fee: Additional charge (~₹200) if your state issues a smart card driving licence.
- Renewal for Other State Licence: You can renew in another state but need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the previous RTO.
- Status Check: You can track application status online via the Parivahan portal using your application number.
Common Mistakes to Avoid:
- Submitting blurry documents
- Ignoring medical certificate
- Applying under the wrong vehicle category
Important Notes:
- Renew within 1 year of expiry to avoid extra tests.
- Medical certificate (Form 1A) is mandatory for those above 40 years.
- Renewal is valid for 5–20 years, depending on age and licence type.
