Applying for a Learner’s License in Andhra Pradesh

Eligibility Criteria

  • Motorcycle without gear (up to 50cc): Minimum age 16 years (with parental consent).

  • Other vehicles (non-transport): Minimum age 18 years.

  • Transport vehicles: Minimum age 20 years, plus a valid LMV (Light Motor Vehicle) licence held for at least one year.

 Required Documents

  2. Proof of Age: Birth certificate, school leaving certificate, passport, etc.

  3. Proof of Residence: Aadhaar card, utility bills, voter ID, etc.

  4. Form 1: Self-declaration of physical fitness.

  5. Form 1A: Medical certificate (mandatory for transport vehicle applicants).

  6. Passport-sized photographs: Typically 3 recent photos.

  7. Existing Driving Licence: For transport vehicle applicants, a valid LMV licence held for at least one year.

Online Application Process

  1. Visit the AP Transport Department website: aptransport.org.

  2. Navigate to ‘Licence’ > ‘Learner’s Licence’: Select ‘Apply for Learner Licence’.

  3. Fill in the Application Form: Provide personal and vehicle details.

  4. Upload Documents: Scan and upload the required documents.

  5. Pay the Application Fee: Approximately ₹15 per vehicle class.

  6. Book a Test Slot: Schedule your learner’s licence test at a nearby RTO.

  7. Attend the Test: Appear for the test on the scheduled date.

  8. Receive Learner’s Licence: Upon passing the test, the licence will be issued.

 Offline Application Process

  1. Visit the Nearest RTO: Obtain Form 2 and other necessary forms.

  2. Fill and Submit Forms: Complete the forms and submit them along with the required documents.

  3. Pay the Application Fee: Pay the applicable fee at the RTO.

  4. Book a Test Slot: Schedule your learner’s licence test.

  5. Attend the Test: Appear for the test on the scheduled date.

  6. Receive Learner’s Licence: Upon passing the test, the licence will be issued.

 Learner’s Licence Test Details

  • Format: The test assesses knowledge of traffic signs, rules, and regulations.

  • Mode: Typically conducted online at the RTO.

  • Retest: If you fail, you can reappear for the test after 7 days.

Validity and Next Steps

  • Validity: The learner’s licence is valid for 6 months and can be renewed once during its validity.

  • Permanent Licence: You can apply for a permanent driving licence after holding the learner’s licence for at least 30 days.
